It has been fantastic to see the rise of the kick scooter in London over the past few years. It seems more and more commuters are trading in their bikes and Oyster cards for a kick scooter instead.

Boasting zero emissions and a fairly reasonable one-off fee, a kick scooter will not only reduce your carbon footprint but also save you a daily tube fare in the long-term. This is slowly but surely grabbing the attention of Londoners, which is resulting in a scooter commuter revolution across the city.

If you’re unsure about what kick scooter is the best to buy, then do not panic – we have reviewed and selected the best adult kick scooters that are perfect for any commuter. After testing various scooters, the best overall kick scooter in our opinion is the Razor A5 Lux Kick Scooter.

Best Adult Kick Scooter For Commuting - Editor's Choice

Atom Adult Kick Scooter

  • Premium quality build
  • Revolutionary one-click folding mechanism
  • Large 200mm wheels
  • Fully galvanised body
  • Non-slip wipe-clean deck

Our favourite adult kick scooter for 2021 is the latest offering from Atom. Their flagship scooter has all the necessary features to make any commute a comfortable journey.

To start, we have to comment on the quality of this scooter. As soon as we unboxed this product, we could tell it is far superior to other scooters we have reviewed. Atom have really taken the time to think about the quality of the materials used in the making of this scooter.

We were spoilt for choice when picking out the ‘stand-out’ feature. We decided to go with the one-click folding mechanism, which allows the scooter to fold (or unfold) at the click of a button. Other scooters typically have clasps to do this, so you will save time with this feature.

The deck is fitted with a rubber non-slip pad. This is great for not only grip but longevity as well. Cheaper options only have a sand paper like finish, which usually gives into wear and tear overtime. The Atom logo is embossed into the pad, which only adds to the premium feel of the scooter.

Under the deck lies built-in suspension, which is designed to absorb any bumps you may encounter on your journey. Additional shock-absorbers are fitted above the front wheel, which adds to the smooth ride as you travel from A to B.

Large 200mm wheels fitted to both the front and back, allow the rider to cover ground with minimal effort. Rubber handles ensure that the scooter is easy to grip as the pace of the journey increases.

Atom have designed this scooter in black and white – two sleek monochrome colours which both look fantastic. Even though this scooter is on the more expensive side, it is a worthwhile investment for any adult who is looking for a kick scooter.

Best Budget Adult Kick Scooter

Hudora Big Wheel 205

  • High quality aluminium deck with reinforced wings
  • Extruded rear wheel friction brake
  • Heavy-duty folding mechanism
  • Adjustable shoulder strap
  • Anti-shock comfort handles

From the world-famous brand Hudora, the BigWheel® 205 is ready to help you take your morning commute to the next level. Its 205mm wheels deliver extremely safe rides even at higher speeds, and the aluminium frame resists road bumps beautifully.

Ideal for most riders, this adult scooter has a robust 100kg load capacity. Its low-lying, low-profile running board enhances driving pleasure, while the strong rear-wheel friction brake enhances safety.

Coming in a rainbow of colours, the BigWheel® 205 is an excellent choice for all genders. We particularly like the practical, one-step folding mechanism that makes it so easy to hop on and off public transport.

Parking and storing the scooter is also a breeze, thanks to its convenient, compact footprint. Compact footprint, however, is synonymous with small deck size – a thing to keep in mind if you have a larger body type.

Gents and ladies alike will also love the height-adjustable handlebar. A stand and adjustable shoulder strap are two further features that make it a winner. No doubt, the best kick scooter for commuting at a price that won’t break the bank.

Best Adult Kick Scooter For Wet Weather

Osprey Dirt Scooter

  • Heavy-duty aluminium deck
  • Chromoly handlebars
  • 200x50mm pneumatic tyres
  • Aluminium hubs
  • 100kg max weight load

An all-terrain scooter at heart but versatile enough for commuting, the Osprey Dirt Scooter can satisfy both the worker willing to give up the daunting public transport and the weekend warrior looking for new adventures.

From first glance, the Dirt Scooter exudes sturdiness. It impresses with a heavy-duty full aluminium deck frame and stainless steel rear fender brake. The bearings are made from aluminium too, while the Chromoly steel handlebar completes the looks with success.

Designed for no compromises, it can deliver quality rides no matter what the road is throwing at it. Perhaps the most impressive feature is its responsiveness on the downhill.

Big, pneumatic off-road tyres also cushion any road bumps. They’re not as fast or as agile as the slimmer wheels build for the asphalt but still pack a punch. The triple-stack threaded headset also enhances control, an excellent feature for rookies.

We also like that it’s outstanding from an aesthetic standpoint. It has a nice finish with quality welds and paintwork.

Never compromising on durability and performance, the Osprey Dirt Scooter is an excellent choice for commuters who also want to explore a more adrenaline-charged riding mode.

Best Adult Kick Scooter For Tall Adults

Razor A6 Kick Scooter

  • Designed and built specifically for taller riders
  • Features Razor’s tallest handlebars and extra-long deck for more foot room
  • Spoked, ultra-large 10” (254 mm) urethane wheels
  • Super-strong frame

If you are slightly on the taller side, you may have had trouble finding the perfect kick scooter for you. The good news is that you don’t have to look any further, as Razor have developed a scooter which is specifically for taller riders. That scooter is the A6 kick scooter.

So what makes the A6 ideal for taller riders? The obvious feature is the handlebars, which extend to heights that far exceed the normal height of a standard kick scooter. Razor have also taken time to think about the deck. The deck is extra-long which allows for more space for those that have a bigger shoe size.

To support the super-strong frame, the scooter is fitted with large 10″ wheels. The larger wheels allow the rider to generate greater speeds with minimal effort. Larger wheels also help absorb the shocks on the road, that may be felt on a journey.

If you aren’t 6ft or above, we do not recommend this scooter for you. On the other hand, if you are, this is definitely a scooter to consider in your scooter hunt.

Best Adult Kick Scooter - Under £200

Micro Black Scooter

  • 220-pound weight limit
  • Folds-down for convenient storage and transportation of scooter itself
  • 200mm Polyurethane wheels
  • Adjustable handlebar: 26 – 38 inches from deck

If our number one pick isn’t for you, you may be drawn to another option that is available for under £200. That option is the Micro Black Scooter. We believe this scooter has all the features to make any commute an enjoyable experience.

Best Adult Kick Scooter - Under £100

Razor A5 Lux Kick Scooter

  • Aircraft-grade aluminium frame
  • 200mm PU wheels
  • Adjustable handlebars
  • Foldable
  • Patented rear fender brake

Razor is one of the most popular names in the scooter market, with the A5 Lux standing out as one of – if not their best – offering. This product is a kick scooter that can be used on any terrain, especially the pavements and roads you will face on your commute.

This is possible thanks to its dependable frame constructed from aircraft-grade aluminium. The robust frame is complemented by the extra-wide 200mm PU wheels that can tackle all kinds of roads.

The adjustable handlebars can rise to an impressive 104cm, providing a comfortable journey even for those riders on the taller side. In terms of load capacity, it can hold up to 100kg, which we think is very reasonable.

When testing this scooter, our favourite features were the patented rear fender brake as well as a patented folding system. The brake brought us to a stop almost instantly and we found it exceptionally lightweight to carry.

Our only con is that there is no shoulder strap to carry the scooter into work or on the tube. This however didn’t cause any inconvenience as the frame can be used to transport it instead.

To summarise, this scooter is a fantastic option for any commuter. Currently available for under £100, the scooter offers true value for money. We urge all commuters out there to swap the daily train fare for this fantastic bit of kit.

The Competition

  • High quality aluminium deck with reinforced wings
  • Extruded rear wheel friction brake
  • Heavy-duty folding mechanism
  • Adjustable shoulder strap
  • Anti-shock comfort handles

As the upgraded version of the BigWheel® 205, the BigWheel® 230 is worthy of the best kick scooter title. It boasts a high-quality aluminium construction and sturdy PU cast wheels able to deliver smooth rides even on bumpier roads.

The main difference between the two is the presence of a bigger front wheel on the 230. It’s easy to understand we’re talking about a 230mm front wheel, while the rear is the same 205mm Hudora already accustomed us to.

A bigger front wheel enhances manoeuvrability. Handling it has a nicer feel compared to the 205, and overall, this option also seems more sturdy.

Like you could expect from a scooter that’s a remake after a popular classic, the 230 maintained all features that made the BigWheel® famous in the first place. It comes with a height-adjustable handlebar, it folds quickly whenever needed, and boasts useful reflectors on handlebar and deck.

Speaking about the deck, we like its non-slip finish that enhances grip and makes your ride safer.

Perfect for everyone 12 years old and up, the BigWheel® 230 has a load capacity of 120kg and comes in two colours, black or white.

Whether you want the ultimate scooter for commuting or a more versatile model that can deliver some weekend thrills, all scooters on this list deliver optimum performance and bring excellent value for money.

Which is the best kick scooter for commuting is ultimately down to you. Consider your riding style, aspiration, and needs, then pick the one that best fits the bill.
